Jennifer Tuck, Voice & Piano Instructor
Jennifer Tuck has been teaching music in schools, after school programs, music stores, churches, camps and her own studio since 1994. She has early childhood music certifications in Yamaha Music Education, Harmony Road Music Education, and is a licensed Music Rhapsody teacher. She majored in Voice at University of Idaho and has a Associate of Music from North Idaho College. Jennifer also plays in a classical flute trio, and enjoys playing keyboards and singing in bands. Jennifer loves working with people of all ages and especially delights in encouraging children. She enjoys writing her own songs and has recently joined and performed at the Idaho Songwriters Association.
Growing up and throughout college, Jennifer performed in many musical theatre productions, choirs, marching, and pep bands, opera workshop, and church worship teams. She developed a broad taste in music for many different styles and genres. She employs a variety of styles including classical, jazz, pop/rock, blues and Broadway. She loves to hear the vision of each client and expressly tailor a set list that is uniquely characteristic of their special event.
Jennifer teaches all ages from birth to adults. Each age level is appropriate in content and curriculum choices. Here is a list of what she offers:
Music For Little Mozarts PreK to Kindergarten (Child & Parent, private or semiprivate.) This program is keyboard based and includes, singing, movement, rhythm instruments, music appreciation, notereading, and ear training alongside the adventures of Mozart Mouse and Beethoven Bear, and all their playroom friends.
Private lessons implement singing, piano, notereading, theory, ear training, technique, improvisation, composition, and performance skills. Music learning is fun and challenging and often employs activities off the piano bench. At the first lesson Jennifer will make a recommendation on which books/materials to purchases. Students are also encouraged to bring their favorite songs. Jennifer uses both a notereading and an ear/chordal approach. All music is age appropriate and family friendly.
Adults Whenever an adult decides to either resume lessons or get started they should be applauded for their courage and tenacity. Jennifer loves teaching adults and takes them through an adult method book. She encourages adults to bring their favorite songs and selections to customize the lessons to the adult student’s interests and goals. It is never too late (or early) to learn.
As the student progresses, Jennifer encourages them to include their own musical selections into their lessons. They are taught to improvise and accompany themselves from a lead sheet or chord chart in addition to arranging and writing their own compositions. If a student has a favorite song, they are welcome to bring it, and it can be arranged for the students level.
Jennifer is flexible to work with parents as a team to build their children into young musicians. She believes that it is the parents that are the most influential in a child’s life, and for any young person to rehearse effectively at home, the parents must be equipped to aid them. She is committed to assisting parents in learning alongside their child as much as possible. If a parent is able to learn with the child, everyone benefits. Often a parent get a “second chance” to resume their own musical study, or learn for the first time alongside their child.
